Safe and Well visits are completed by the Fire Service, they focus on fire safety but will look at other structural and health issues such as a loose bannister or reduced mobility.

There is a varied range of equipment, aids and adaptations that can be used to help us maintain our independence. Some items need to be referred to by your GP or district nurse and have an element of prescription to them, for example; walking frames are required to be fitted to ensure that they are at the right height and pressure cushions will require an agreed air level. Below gives a brief guide as to what equipment is available and how you can access it.

Local authority Disability resource team
The East riding of Yorkshire council has a disability resource team that is able to provide equipment and arrange for adaptations to support individuals to promote their wellbeing and remain independent in their own homes, such as:
- Perching stools
- Various chair raisers
- Raised toilet seat
- Toilet frame
- Bath board
- Bath seat
- Powered bath lift
- Minor adaptations
- Grab rails
- Roma trolley
- Talking calendar clock
- Listener for the TV
- Stair lifts
- Ramps
If arranged via the Local authority, equipment is free of charge however there can be a long wait for some items and you may wish to purchase these items yourself. Simply searching for the item in google will show you the price and availability to allow you to make an informed decision.
Some smaller adaptations can also be arranged free of charge, however for larger or more expensive items these may have an associated cost and may be means tested to determine the cost to you. You will be given full details of all associated costs before adaptations are made.
